Gettin´ started

When planning your presentation and the particular activities you want to do during the seminar, always bear the goal of the activity in your mind. When the activity is creative, interesting and even funny, it is always a plus. However, if the activity fulfills only these criteria, it will not be sufficient. Your aim is not to entertain your classmates, but to discuss the literary work and to share some opinions with them. If you manage to combine these two factors – literary analysis and creativity / entertainment – you have done a wonderful job.
On the contrary, if you only parrot “meaningful” assertions you have found on internet and fail to engage your classmates in the presentation, it will not be successful either. Therefore, plan the whole presentation properly beforehand and make sure that you cover all important aspects of the novel in your activities.
To sum up, here are the most important points you should be aware of before and during your presentation:
· Decide what the crucial aspects of the novel are that you want to cover in your presentation.
· Invent some meaningful and creative activities for your classmates to explore these aspects and to engage them in the discussion.
· Try to link these activities in such a way that they present a meaningful unit at the end.
· Order your activities thematically, starting with the easiest one.
· Always highlight important information (you can prepare a handout, use flashcards, or just make use of the blackboard, OHP or a PowerPoint presentation) so that your classmates can make notes during the presentation.
· At the end, it is always helpful to summarize the main points.
